The Isle of Skye truly is a magical place. There’s just something about it that gets under your skin. But it’s at it’s best when you find somewhere quiet to explore and just soak it all in.
I’ve learnt so much from travelling to Skye and now living here, and I love helping others have the best trip here they can have to!

Isle of Skye Essentials
Accommodation
Skye has a wide range of accommodation, with hotels, hostels, B&Bs, campsites, and self catering all available. However, due to the size of the island and the population here, the amount of accommodation is limited. I would HIGHLY recommend you book in advance as soon as you know you want to visit Skye. Many places begin taking bookings a year in advance and are booked up several months before the season begins.
Food & Drink
There are great places to eat and drink all over the Isle of Skye. Make sure you look into places to eat near where you’re planning to be each day, but always have a back up plan too. For evening meals, some places will take reservations and others won’t. If there’s somewhere you really want to eat make sure you book in advance. Kitchen hours vary but tend to be around 5-9pm, so plan accordingly.
Best time to visit
The Isle of Skye is a seasonable place to visit. The peak season is May to September, when you can expect everything to be open, but it will also be busier at popular places. While you can visit at any time of year, some attractions and restaurants will be closed over the autumn, winter, and early spring. It varies from year to year and each place chooses individually when to stay open so make sure you check this when you’re planning.
Transport
Having your own transport will give you the most freedom for exploring Skye. Public transport is available but the routes and times are limited, as they tend to serve local needs rather than tourism. Taking a tour with a local guide is highly recommended, even if you do have your own vehicle, as they can show you places you would never have discovered otherwise and teach you more about the island.
